A night out with a camera
Night sky photography doesn’t need to be complicated. I’ll share how I photograph and edit the night sky using a camera, tripod, and remote shutter control. A star tracker can open up other possibilities, but it isn’t required. This is hands-on photography, outside and under the sky. We’ll work with the conditions we have and the subject we came to photograph.
What are we shooting?
Whatever the sky gives us. Aurora can turn an ordinary landscape into something completely different. The Milky Way brings its own challenges. Meteors appear when they feel like it. The Moon can be the subject or part of the landscape. And occasionally a comet gives us a reason to head outside at a ridiculous hour. That unpredictability is part of why I love photographing at night.
Bring your own gear
You don’t need an elaborate astrophotography setup. Bring the camera gear you normally use, a sturdy tripod, and a remote shutter control if you have one. If you use a star tracker, bring that too. We’ll work with the equipment you have.
Where should we go?
That depends on what we want to photograph. A dark sky, an interesting foreground, the right season, and the conditions on the night all matter. We can choose a location together or plan around somewhere you already want to photograph.
Pricing
Individual sessions start at $300/person.
Private sessions start at $500/person, plus related travel expenses.
Groups of five or more can ask about group pricing.
